Funeral Planning When a Loved One dies
On behalf of the parish family of Saint Ann, please accept our deepest sympathy and prayers. The death of a loved one is a time of sorrow, but it is also a time when we place our hope in the promise of Christ’s Resurrection. Our parish is here to accompany you with compassion, prayer, and practical support as your prepare to celebrate the Funeral Rites of the Church.

Arranging a Catholic Funeral
If you loved one has passed away, your first step is to contact the funeral home. The funeral director will work with the parish to arrange a date and time and will assist you with the necessary details.

A member of our parish office will then contact you to meet with the priest to plan the Funeral Mass or Liturgy. Together, you will choose the Scripture readings, prayers, and music, while reflecting on the life and faith of your loved one.

The Catholic Funeral Rites
The Church accompanies the faithful through three moments of prayer:

The Vigil (Wake): A time for family and friends to gather in prayer and remembrance.
The Funeral Mass or Funeral Liturgy: The Church’s principal celebration, where we commend our love one to God’s mercy and celebrate Christ’s victory over death.
The Rite of Committal: The final prayers offered at the cemetery or place of internment.

These sacred rites express our Christian hope that death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal life with Christ.

Cremation
The Catholic Church permits cremation, provided it reflects our belief in the dignity of the human body and the Resurrection. Whenever possible, the Funeral Mass is celebrated with the body present before cremation. If cremation has already taken place, the cremated remains may be brought to the church for the funeral. Following the funeral, the cremated remains should be buried or entombed in a sacred place.

We are Here to Help
If you have questions about planning a Catholic funeral or would like to speak with a priest, please contact the parish office. During this difficult time, know that you and your family are in our prayers, and we are here to accompany you with faith, hope, and compassion.
